The Maharashtra government has intensified its action against app-based bike taxi services by directing Apple and Google to remove Uber, Ola and Rapido from their app stores. Officials warned that failure to comply with directives from Indian law enforcement authorities could lead to further legal action under intermediary liability rules. This indicates that the state government is attempting to treat the apps not merely as transport service providers but also as digital platforms accountable under cyber and intermediary laws.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has emerged as the leading voice behind the crackdown.
